Cerberus Black Ltd was founded in 2009 to commercialise and exploit technology developed in conjunction with Cambridge University and EM Acoustics. This technology is patent pending with 100% ownership vesting in Cerberus Black.
The Company has a policy of working closely with the expert user base in order that its products are fully aligned to real-world concepts of operation and the practical realities of deployment.
The first commercialised product the A-WASP®, Acoustic Warning Signal Projector, was initially brought to the law enforcement market’s attention in 2014 and will be released for sale during 2015.
Cerberus Black is a consortium member of a current EU Framework Programme 7 project that began in June 2013.
The core philosophy underlying Cerberus Black Ltd is the desire to prevent injury, reduce harm and ultimately save lives.
The premise is to develop new tools for the Police and Security Forces to manage conflict situations more effectively without putting themselves or members of the public at risk.
We are inspired by the nine principals of Policing by Consent proposed by the Sir Robert Peel, the visionary father of modern British Policing, especially number six:
VI. To use physical force only when the exercise of persuasion, advice and warning is found to be insufficient to obtain public co-operation to an extent necessary to secure observance of law or to restore order, and to use only the minimum degree of physical force which is necessary on any particular occasion for achieving a police objective.
The A-WASP® is specifically designed to extend the ability of the police to ‘exercise persuasion, advice and warning’ without resorting to force.
Cerberus was the three-headed dog that guarded the Gates of Hades in Greek Mythology. Whilst terrifying in appearance, its purpose was in part benevolent in preventing the living accidentally crossing into the land of the dead, a journey from which there was no return. Therefore the name is chosen to represent a powerful force brought about to prevent harm.
A-WASP is a registered trademark of Cerberus Black Ltd in the European Union and the United States of America.
